In all honesty if I had to chose between in having cancer and being dead. I would rather be dead. I would be more afraid of having an illness with lots of suffering than dying. Life can be hell sometimes.
Dying is easy and living is hard.
Wow, a lot of hard motherfuckers on this website. I'm jealous.
My great grandfather committed suicide to save his family from medical bills when he got cancer. A terrible thing in some ways but I have to commend him. I would probably go through radiation to fight cancer and maybe some chemo but I would not go to the lengths many people go to. I don't really think things like transplants and such are a great idea.
No. Buddhist is not afraid of death, as it is a part of becoming, and Buddhist is supposed to wake up and his first thought should be I am going to die, life is utterly impermanent. Actually keeping the thought of dying in your mind puts everything in prospective. Makes you more aware of the need to be good and act skillfully, as no one knows when, and it could be anytime.
One should not be attached to life too much as it will cause one a lot of pain. Attachment to life is a major source of suffering.
While you're alive do all you can to do good, avoid evil, and develop your mind, but don't live in fear. Death appears scary because it seem to be final, and it is a big unknown. But remember FEAR=False Expectations Appearing Real.
Be not afraid of anything, be curious.
