Default Where about's are your Croatian ancestors from?

    Hi all,

I was just curious where everyone's Croatian ancestors and family are from. I'm 25% Croatian on paper (average around 28% on Gedmatch calculators) and my Croatian side is quite well researched. Some lines are researched back to the 1400s and they are all from Dalmatia.

Cool. Where from in Dalmatia ? Majority of New World Croats or part Croats are of Dalmatian origin.

Mine are split between Dalmatia, Croatia proper (Central-Northwest) and Northern Bosnia...()

Thank you for your kind words. Why am I messed up?

I'm more Albanian than anything else though, when people ask me where I'm from I usually say the Balkans or what was Yugoslavia but if they're more intelligent than the average guy my age they say what country and I say Kosovo.

You can only have one ethnicity.

Interesting. Can you trace them back very far? My great grandfather was from Živogošće and my great grandmother was from Vrgorac (her side is quite unknown). Most of my great grandfathers side are from along the coast including Makarska, Tučepi and Drašnice.

I do not class myself as Jewish or Maori so I appreciate your constructive and educated comment.

Makarska, Tučepi, these are nice and pretty places, situated at the most beautiful part of Adriatic sea. We call it Jadransko more.

Vrgorac, little place is known for many famous Croats, such as great poet Tin Ujević
I can trace them mostly according to family stories. Majority of Dalmatian Islanders are Bosnian and Herzegovian Croats that colonized the islands in middle ages, escaping from Turks. Of course, some Islands had pre-Slavic populations too.

PS Croats here are secretive about their origins. We had posters from almost every region in the past.

Is there a common theory accepted in Croatia about the origins of Croatians?

I haven't come across too many Croatians who are secretive about their origins. Apparently having a mixed ancestry on this forum is forbidden also. Fortunately many people migrated to New Zealand so I have no problem with the mix I am. It's more interesting than being 100% British.
