Well, depends on the person but from my point of view it’s a part of the history of my homeland, embracing and accepting that wouldn’t change my identity as it’s not homogenous already.

To my perception both Greeks and Anatolian Turks do not much refer to Byzance in spite of that it lasted as an Empire for 1000 years.

Pro an identification by Greeks with it is the fact that it was ethically Greek, however, as ethnically Greek as Pontic Greeks are. And pro an identification by Anatolian Turks with it is that they hail kind of 85% not from immigrated Turks but from indigenous to Anatolia folks. Most of them will once have been ethnically Greek.

Because I see that your pics deal with Smyrna that was mainly ethnically Greek at 1900 AD, is your non-homogeneous ancestry motivated by recent Greek ancestry?

A good amount of my ancestry (maternal) is from Southern Izmir but no recent Greek ancestry afaik

This afternoon at work they told me that the Aurora Boreal had been seen in the Basque Country and I thought it was a joke or that they were calling something else the "Aurora Boreal". They showed me a photo of the coast and I couldn't believe it.

Well, we are not in the arctic so strictly is just an Aurora but not "boreal".
