If you knew something about football, you would know that the soccer tournament at olympic games is meaningless because it is U23. Average height of Manchester city squad is 180 cm. Inter Milan (the team they defeated in the grandfinal) is 182 cm on average. Man city won champions league last year (highest level of football there is). What does that tell you?

Shorter players have the said advantage of low center of gravity and also the advantage of having it easier to change the direction of movement, to do dribbling. I think, small passing too. So, theoretically on average they fit middle field positions better.

Taller players have advantage in goalkeeper and defender positions because the ability to reach the ball is very important there.

The preferable height of forwards is defined by the style of the particular team.

That said, individual abilities of players are much more important then their heights. I'm a former amateur football player and I'm 182-183 cm.
