People with nieces/nephews, cousins and grandkids.. do they take after your side of the family?

I want to know if there is any truth to the idea that some families have stronger genes. I've seen families where ALL the children take after one parent and none look like the other or their side of the family. I've also seen cases where all of the same-sex relatives look alike.

How does it go in your family? Are there any trends?

Most of the genes that determine a person's phenotypical appearance are polygenic, meaning they combine from two or more genes unevenly, so there's a wide berth for randomization.

I think a lot of people actually see human gene inheritance as conforming to Mendelian Inheritance, i.e. Black + White = Brown, Big + Small = Medium, etc... due to sheer ignorance.

I'm not so interested in their classifications but rather if your side of the family tends to have strong genes, to the extent that all of your relatives of younger generations look like you guys or not.

I have three sons, wich all look quit alot like me or my wife. Eye color, height and yes even ear size and shape down to size of feet.

Two of my sons gifted me with grand children and even they have my traits.
