Coon was an outrageous fraud. As you may know, Coon was forced out of the American Anthropological Association , and he actually headed the organization. A terrible embarrassment, putting it mildly.

He was forced out because of the academic climate at the time had shifted to the extreme with the Boas crowd (actual frauds). Coon wasn't a fraud. He worked with what he had. Boas and his crew, however, have been shown to have flat out lied on several occasions.

Care to know how much real field work he did? Not to mention the tainted sources he utilized to build some of his notions ... Coon was clearly a racist with an agenda. Read "In Ways Unacademical ... in "Journal of the History of Biology", John P. Jackson Jr., 34: pp. 247 - 285, 2001. as a starter.

Boas and company were no angels but Coon stands as an outright racist with proclivities for manipulating information / data, questionable extrapolation and untenable generalization, among other things.
