They way Japanese society works.. is basically to pretend everything is OK. The last thing you want to do is "lose your face" or be ashamed.

The Japanese embassy in Estonia is telling people its OK to go to Japan, no worries, everything is OK.

And Im not sure if things have changed or not, but they arent letting foreign experts to help with the nuclear stuff.

I had a discussion (if you can call it that) on a forum I have used for about 10 years and I was amazed to find that people judged me for stating Japan was a proud racial group and I hoped they pulled through it.

I tried talking to these same people and saying that the reactor issues and meltdown from the radiation was 100X worse the Chernobyl and even if they judged Japanese people with some hatred (because of war etc) they had to see the bigger picture because this radiation can travel in a jet stream which travels around the world, this radiation has a shelf life of 4 BILLION years.

This radiation can contaminate crops the world over and the Japanese media forgot to mention that the second reactor explosion launched "spent fuel rods" (used rods) into the air and many of those went into the sea. The main stream media also forgot to mention that over 600thousand of these rods (40 years worth of old used rods) are stored here and some of them contain 7% Plutonium and 93% Uranium.

The earthquake was a Japanese problem, the Tsunami a Japanese problem but this isn't a Japanese problem now we are faced with radiation. It is also worth noting that the health surveys stated that 1 million people died worldwide as a result of the Chernobyl fallout. It is also not quite as funny that today when my partner asked the taxi driver "how long before you think the radiation will reach Europe" he said "It can't get to Europe"

Anyone here in Russia will know how bad this is because the Russians have been buying radiation meters, and the Canadian and America health stores are sold out of Iodine & iodate products with people running around trying to find seaweed.

Let me also say that when people wonder why Japan would build these so close to water the answer is in the question. They need to be near an unlimited supply of water. Why build them near a fault line? Japan itself is basically a fault line. They don't produce coal or oil and so they had no choice. Now we will have all those tree hugging left wingers claiming nuclear is still safe and we have nothing to worry about. I say I am well aware of the damage caused by coal but if we have a earthquake or a Tsunami we don't cause radioactive meltdown.

No looting, and a nation really keeping it together. Now cutturally todays Japan has some weird habits to say the least but like I said I am really worried that most European people seem to think this is just about Japanese people dying but the fact this could be 100 times or 1000 times as bad as Chernobyl and the fact that Chernobyl killed 1 million we are facing the biggest disaster in ALL OF OUR lifetimes.

As for the media, we can't trust them to tell the truth. When they said the wall had blown in fact 3000+ rods had blown apart. When they admitted reactor 3 (second explosion) they said some of the chamber "may have been breached" but in fact 7000 rods had been blown apart and many fell into the sea. Radiation will now affect fish, diary and may well spread across the pacific in large doses on its first rounds destroying 70& of North Americas productivity. This is absolutly massive and far too many people within Europe are not preparing themselves.

Lets just hope that the Japanese can remain honourable and filled with courage because as I tried to explain to some of my "friends" they may not care what happens to the Japanese but the amount of Radiation that arrived into Europe and circles us for 4 Billion years depends on the bravery and courage of a few Japanese who will have to give their life for the safety of not only their people but ours also.

I think most of us realize that the problems with the Fukushima reactors are huge and that will have an enormous impact on humans, animals and the environment.
The difference here is that we are following it happen and people behave as preemptive and proactive as they can, while the Chernobyl accident came out several days later after a number of European nations had measured elevated radioactivty and questioned Sovietunion about what the fuck's going on.

    I think u r exaggerating a bit.

I heard some experts of Nuclear energy and stuff like that in CNN and they said it is not as bad as Chernobyl.

Plus if this Radiation thing was that bad then all those Nuclear Probes in the Pacific done by the 50s, 60s would have destroyed humanity.

100X worse than Chernobyl???? come on, let's kill ourselves from now.
