Nobody elects the EU presidents. Too many MEPs in the EU parliament who aren't elected to represent us get to vote on laws made in the EU parliament. That's the problem with big governments - lack of accountability.
The EU isn't just undemocratic;- it's anti-democratic. Removing democratically elected leaders in the past in Greece and Italy and forcing pro EU puppet governments on them.
The ranting in the EU parliament by Eurocrat Guy Verhofstadt has caused many Europeans to brand him as Hitler.
Martin Schulz said it's not for the crowd to decide our destiny after we voted for our independence. He said it's for governments to decide. (We won't forget that statement. Governments are elected to serve us, the people, and were instructed on a mandate which was decided by us, the people.) The EU doesn't like democracy.
EU doesn't like dissidents!
Denmark; Maastricht Treaty - Danes voted no in a referendum to signing more of their sovereign powers to the EU - they were forced by the EU to vote again.
UK was never allowed to vote in a referendum on any EU treaty.
Ireland; Nice Treaty - voted no. Ignored.
France, Netherlands; EU Constitution - referendum results ignored in both EU states.
Ireland; Lisbon Treaty - voted no in a referendum. Irish people forced to vote again in second referendum until the EU got the vote result they wanted.
Greece; Euro bailout - ignoredReferendums elsewhere on what we now call the EU:
1972 Norway voted to STAY OUT
1982 Greenland voted to LEAVE
1992 Switzerland voted to STAY OUT
1994 Norway voted to STAY OUT
2013 San Marino: no quorum to join.
UK; Brexit - EU attempted to overturn it and force a second referendum onto the people - but the UK proved too big to be bullied.2005
My country The Netherlands also voted to STAY OUT.
Unfortunately our government decided otherwise.
It's a shame the Dutch government show so many times with their actions they do not care about the people they represent and choose to do the opposite.
Brexit & next Nexit!

Italy; Eurosceptics - overuled.
Europeans were never asked if we wanted to be an 'EU citizen' or governed by EU Presidents who we didn't elect. We were never given a referendum or say if we wanted to join the EEC... it was forced upon us against the will of the people.
Eurobonds are now forced onto angry Dutch and Germans. Big EU fines have been imposed onto Italy each day by the Eurocrats.
'The EU has the worst excesses of the former Soviet Union.' Dimitri Medvedev, former elected President of the Russian Federation.

I see all this greatly exaggerated, but in some things I can agree with you.
I don´t think you leaved EU because it is anti-democratic but because being in EU implied loose quite national sovereignty. And Medvedev quote about EU having the worst excesses of former Soviet union is quite ridiculous.
About how EU acted during the crisis, I am agree with you and also, you have the right to leave EU when you want.
Thanks for your answer.

Don't worry, it will become dependent soon (again ). As soon as EU collapses its core will have to be mobilized and all its periphery will be thrown away. Their option will be to stay proudly independent and insanely poor or beg Russia to accept them into Eurasian union and have at least some slice of the pie.

How cute. Why he only talks about how much Latvia had given and never about how much it received from the center? Oh, the truth will spoil his narrative.
Out of all republics only Russia and Belarus were permanent donors with Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan fluctuating between being donors and recipients from year to year. Everyone else, even rich Ukraine, was consistently getting more than contributed.
