Hungarian or Slovak - Ethnic background

I would say Slovaks are more of organic ethno-identity (based on shared ancestry) while Hungarians are more of civic identity (like French). Slovak can easily become Hungarian, vice-versa too I guess but that is less usual.

What gave you such impression?
I don't think a Slovak with hungarian ancestry is less likely to be accepted as Slovak than the other way around.

I actually don't think that. There are lot of Hungarian surnames among ethnic Slovaks.
But I don't see Hungarian and Slovak ethnicity as same thing for sure. Hungarians are exception in this part of Europe, while Slovaks are highly Slavic genetically just like the languaqe they speak.

I agree that he could quite easily be either. There are a lot of factors, things like; how his parents might deviate from average, the way he inherited from each of them (recombination), the imperfectness of these calcs, etc.

@Maestro, I saw that I had you in my Eurogenes K15 database too, I used all the Albanian population averages in source, also Hungarian and Szekely. Better distance with Slovak, but better balance with Hungarian. The algorithm picked Albanian-North for you, not sure if that matches your paper trail.

Im actually very proud of my Hungarian side and I dont identify as Slovak ethnic wise.
Also my ethnicity in the papers note that Im actually Hungarian. So In Slovak census I drop down to Hungarian minority.
Nevertheless Jan Slota is one of funniest politicians ever XD He has hatred towards Hungarians but if you've heard his other quotes about other politicians you would burst out laugh xd

very good point. Slovak is an organic ethnic identity. To be Hungarian is really more like being a remnant of a small empire. How many hungarians have known slavic/German ancestry. Almost every single one of them. Hungarians are a mix of the rest of central europe in a way slovaks are not. Hungarians have also always had a conept that eveyone could be hungarian, there is the answer right there. Hungarians who claim a slovak identity are definitely accepted in Slovakia though. But your analysis of the two ethnicities is correct.
