Haplogroup I2a is also much more common there than in the North.
Anthropologist Michalski claimed that in the river valleys between the regions inhabited by Slavic tribes live descendants of the pre-Slavic Finno-Ugric population with mixed Neanderthal-Finnish facial features. Generally ugly because they may have a darker shade of skin, hair and different eyes, as well as hard facial features with a different nose and eyebrow arches. The areas of their residence are the Łódź region, a strip of land in the Vistula valley, a strip of land on the Noteć and Krajno and Kujawy, i.e. in the gaps between the Slavic Pomeranians, Polans, Masovians, etc.
There was nothing about mountain dwellers, but it's quite possible. After all, Germans from the Alps also look dark and slant-eyed compared to their compatriots from the northern lowlands.
