    Yes, but there are exception.
Recently on the RTS i watched TV show ' wedding from my area.' The television pays for the wedding expences to couples and they present customs of specific area and love stories of couples. Couple was from Subotica. Both of them had Serbian father but they lost them early, his mother is Bunjevac and her mother is Hungarian. Guy said that he was always Catholic regardless his father was Orthodox, he was raised as Catholic. Girl said in her family were celebrated Orthodox and Catholic Christman, Easter etc. Their wedding was by Catholic rite in Catholic church, their children will be Catholics and non-Serbs probably.
I have meet younger Hungarian guy from Eredevik in Syrmia who speak only Serbian and identify himself with Serbia. His only connections with Hungarian identity is his name and Catholic confession.

In such mixed marriages most of males are Serbs and wives are Hungarian. Same in Russia,Tatars decrease through their females marrying Russian men, while Tatar men don't marry Russian women.

Pretty much same as that but just Serbs instead of Turks was narrative of Jovan Deretić https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jovan_I._Deretić

Jovan Deretić claimed origin from Illyrian tribe Deretini which really existed in his native region (Herzegovina). For him Illyrians, Thracians, Germanics, Aryans, Sarmatians, Scythians, Celts, Hittites, Persians, Tocharians, Etruscans etc. were all Serbs. Deretić was R1a btw.
