Russians/Ukrainians/Belorussians who lived in the steppe with sometimes other mixes like Turkic/Ugric.

Russians/Ukrainians/Belorussians who lived in the steppe with sometimes other mixes like Turkic/Ugric.

Where are their descendants? The Cossacks I've seen look fully Russian, but I've read that they are not ethnically Cossacks and that the true Cossacks live in Zaporizhia and some parts of Caucasus. I know there were several branches of Cossacks (Terek, Zaporizhian), but it's very confusing to me.

Pretty much all the same but nobody really knows when the first cossaks formed.
A Ukrainian cossak wrote a script in the 18th century where he wrote that they come from the khazar khanate.

I know about decossackization, but it's true that Zaporozhian nowadays population descend from Cossacks? I read so in a book about Nestor Makhno, who himself claimed to be of Cossack ancestry, though the population might have changed after Stalin population exchanges, I don't know.

Yes mostly slavs but time to time some turkic or kavkazian people joined them, for exemple some crimean tatar joined Bogdan Khmelnitsky and integrated into cossack people.

I think it is unlekily (for the majority) today but Nestor Makhno was really a cossack because he claimed so and his idea of anarchism were close to first cossack who wanted to be free and not a peasent slave.

Then russian from stravropol are turkish too.

Russians from Stavropol are not mixed with Turkic subhumans. Turkic subhumans were genocided and then the area was settled by Russians.
