I'm in need of some new literature to read. I'm having a hard time deciding what to pick up. So I ask for help in making this decision from you. I've no particular genre in mind, just something interesting and thought provoking. Preferably older literature.

My favorite books are Crime and Punishment, Notes from Underground, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Faust and We.

Or maybe just list your favorite books.

Thanks in advance. :)

If you're up for reading plays, I'll recommend a few of my favorites:

Man and Superman by George Bernard Shaw
Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen
and Tartuffe by Moličre

Hmm I read a lot of non-fiction books so I'm not sure how your tastes run with respect to that genre however one book that I can highly recommend is called The Far Traveler: Voyages of a Viking Woman by Nancy Marie Brown. It's chockful of archaeological information tracing the adventuresome life of Gudrid. It's well worth a read. :)

Another non-fiction book that I found quite a fun read was the Terry Jones' and Alan Ereira's book entitled Barbarians: An Alternative Roman History. Light enough reading but still well done historically. It gives a fresh perspective with respect to the recounting of the Roman
Empire and its decline.

In terms of fiction, I have very much enjoyed that which I have read of Neil Gaiman's American Gods. It's fresh, it's interesting. It's Gaiman!

There are also historical fiction series out there written by Bernard Cornwell that seems to be quite popular with the Heathen set. Though I'm quite sure you know of these already. ;)

Hope this helps out a bit Ulf! :)

Cheers!...Aemma

Very good. Same vein as Bernard Cornwell. Well worth the sittings.

Well I had some gift cards to blow through cause my family knows I like books. I picked up A History of Modern Germany, The Pessimist's Guide to History, and Moby Dick. I've never read Moby Dick, thought it high time I did. :embarrassed

I tried to find Barbarians: An Alternative Roman History, but Borders (yuck..) had nothing but books on the Holocaust and Roman and Greek historians, most of which I've picked up at sometime or another. A History of Modern Germany was just about the only non-Holocaust book in the German history section I could find :rolleyes2:.

I've gotten free versions of Hedda Gabler and Tartuffe, so those will come in good time.

I'm probably going to have to make some purchases on Amazon once I get some disposable income, but my car has pushed that seemingly father away.

Thanks guys. :thumbs up

Atlas Shrugged is an excellent book if you haven't read that yet.

Unfortunately, I can not agree with you.

Starship Troopers and Farnham's Freehold by Robert Heinlein are my other suggestions, though they are written in a similar style as Atlas Shrugged (although much shorter)

One of the best books I've ever read. Nearly brought me to tears at one part.
