Everyone knows how I feel about Spanish colonialism, but this isn't about my personal feelings on the matter.
In Sicily there are some cultural influences that are blatant and obvious.. Greek and Byzantine influence can be seen in the music, North African influence in some of the food and architecture, Norman and Byzantine influence in the architecture, as well as a constant stream of influences from mainland Italy in the past 500 years that resulted in the language and religion practiced there today.
Calabria, by and large feels like a Latinized Greece.
What are tangible elements from the 300 or so years of Spanish rule? Apart from elements that are shared between Italy and Spain like Catholicism, are there any direct, tangible elements in the culture directly from Spain?
