In typical Semi-Pro style, Will Ferrell hit a New Orleans Pelicans cheerleader in the face with a basketball during Wednesday night’s NBA game against the L.A. Lakers and was dragged out of the arena by security.

Ferrell was attempting a half-court shot, but instead slam-dunked into the woman’s face during half-time. The surrounding cheerleaders at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans fled to her aid. Ferrell got away without any charges — it was all staged. The incident was part of the shooting schedule for Ferrell’s upcoming film, Daddy’s Home.

Within minutes of the ball hitting the cheerleader’s face, videos and photos had already been sprawled all over social media.

Daddy’s Home will also star Mark Wahlberg, Linda Cardellini and Hannibal Buress, according to IMDB. Deadline reports that the film stars Ferrell as an average Joe radio executive who’s the stepdad to Wahlberg’s two children. Wahlberg, the freeloading birth father, is Ferrell’s rival as he competes for the kids’ attention.

But don’t worry if you missed it — the cheerleader (or possibly a different one) will be getting hit in the face over different days, according to Nola.com. And the Pelicans’ venue plans to let the audience know about the scene in advance, in case you’re looking for tickets.

Man, this is so weird. This is why I don't watch as much sports as I used to. It is increasingly becoming all about showbiz. Half of the sports coverage in the United States is about the personal lives of the athletes now or some other controversy.
