Doctor Harold Shipman (aka Doctor Death)

Harold Frederick Shipman (14 January 1946 – 13 January 2004) was a British doctor born in Nottingham, England,
who worked at a surgery in Manchester,
and is one of the most prolific serial killers in recorded history
with between 250 - 1000 murders being ascribed to him.

On 31 January 2000, a jury found Shipman guilty of 15 murders.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment and the judge recommended that he never be released.

After his trial, The Shipman Inquiry, chaired by Dame Janet Smith, began on 1 September 2000.

Lasting almost two years, it was an investigation into all deaths certified by Shipman.

Much of Britain's legal structure concerning health care and medicine
was reviewed and modified as a direct and indirect result of Shipman's crimes.

Most of his murder victims were elderly women, with the youngest victim being a 41 year old male.
Shipman forged their wills and stole their money after he caused their deaths by drugging them.

Shipman is the only British doctor who has been found guilty of murdering his patients.
Shipman died on 13 January 2004, after hanging himself in his cell at Wakefield Prison in West Yorkshire.

He certainly didn't abide by The Hippocratic Oath that doctors must swear to uphold before they become a doctor. The Hippocratic Oath that all doctors must take is where they swear to protect the wellbeing of their patients and not to cause any harm upon those in their care, and not to bring their religious beliefs into their practice, etc.

Most doctors I've met have been very decent and professional but once I came across a very arrogant GP in Archway, north London, who shouted at his patients and shoved his religion at people and he looked like a spitting image of Doctor Harold Shipman. It's so freaky and he scared people. I should have submitted a complaint to the manager of the place, but I quietly left and was just glad to see the back of him.

My Croatian friend in London met a doctor in hospital who was drunk every time she saw her and the patients were complaining about it on the advise of the nurses who noticed it too.

I don't know how serial killers like this can get away with killing so many elderly people without anyone being suspicious. People didn't suspect him because he was a highly educated doctor and therefore respected, but really there's nobody in life that people can trust. Serial killers go unnoticed because they know how to charm and deceive people and they often appear as normal people who nobody suspects. So many females were misled and murdered by Ted Bundy, for instance, and they were fooled into believing that he was a 'charming and educated man' (which he was, but his charm was a mask.) And when serial killers are caught, their neighbours and friends are often in disbelief and shock as they were also fooled by the killers disguise of being a nice person... but just because someone is educated or charming, it doesn't mean they're incapable of being dangerous.

I guess that's why Dr. Shipman targeted vulnerable and elderly people to kill as people would have become more suspicious if lots of younger patients died under his care. He even tampered with the wills of his victims so he could make financial gains, despite already receiving a doctors salary.

He was a greedy, callous, conniving and deceptive person who deliberately kept his killings secretive as he had full awareness of what he was doing and he knew that he'd be prosecuted if he was caught, so he wasn't that mad otherwise he wouldn't have kept his killings as a secret from the other doctors and staff in his surgery.
