Yep that's what i started with back in April of this year. Didnt know my grandfathers name much less have a photo or any records. Knew my fathers name was adopted and we always assumed he was Italian.

Thanks for your shove in the right direction with the YDNA advice!

I was able to match with a relative who is big into this and has an ancestry account. She has sent me scans of hand written records by my grandfather as well as that picture i posted in taxonomy. That nigga looks just like me. Also she is sending me ancestry.com records that have some pretty incredible information including military service records and even the names of living uncles and aunts on my fathers side.

Very promising results if i can get contact info for them!

Thanks for the advice brah, it unlocked another door!

My dads, dad. There is no doubt. Found a paper trail that match locations, names, and times. It's a pretty big step from knowing nothing but my fathers name and an approx birthday. One thing that helped a lot is that it seems we all have military service records.
