CanWest GlobeMedia and BCE Inc. merging

Heard about this through word of mouth, apparently the hearing with the CRTC will take place at the Confederation Center of the Arts in Charlottetown, PE on Feb 1st.

CanWest GlobeMedia is Canada's biggest media giant, which has absorbed many outlets over the years (CTV, CityTV, MuchMusic, and their original station, Global) and BCE Inc. is Canada's biggest Telecommunications company (owns Bell Canada, Aliant, PC Mobile, Virgin Mobile, Koodoo, and the Canadian government's communications, including those for Elections Canada).

Every last one of them has been suckling at the taxpayer's teat for too long. Not a one would have survived in open competition, which the government doesn't allow to begin with. CRTC is a joke.

This merger isn't very shocking given how corrupt the entire system has ever been.
