Is his surname actually Hannigan? That's an Irish name.

Yes, his parents are Nikulás Hannigan and Rán Tryggvadóttir. He does speak English with an Irish accent but not sure if he actually has any Irish ancestry:

in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, family names were very fashionable, mostly thanks to Danish influences, and well-to-do Icelanders would take up family names because it was seen as sophisticated. Taking up new family names was outlawed in 1991 (we’ve got pretty strict laws about names in Iceland, largely in the interest of aggressively preserving and protecting the Icelandic language and grammar), but if you had a family name before the law took effect, you could keep it and your children could inherit it. You can also take up a family name you weren’t given at birth, but only if you had an ancestor who legally had that name. Thus, there’s only a limited number of families in Iceland with family names.

Well he has to have some Irish ancestry if his surname is Hannigan.

Not necessarily. Some Icelanders took family names in the 19th century and they had to choose foreign ones because Icelandic family names didn't exist.

That doesn't sound kosher to me. Why would an Icelander pick an Irish name such as Hannigan? Most Icelanders don't have foreign names and they all look Icelandic. Icelanders generally only adopted family names in the 19th Century but not foreign names. It's obvious this guy has recent Irish ancestry with a surname like Hannigan.

Maybe. Do you think he looks part-Irish?

According to a bio he wrote himself:

With influences ranging from Jeff Buckley to Jimi Hendrix, Klemens writes original and inspiring acoustic indie rock songs that swiftly manage to grasp their listeners' attention.
Having recently recorded an EP entitled 'Elephant Talk' in a local studio, Klemens is putting it up for a free download on his Last.fm account and is encouraging you to give it a listen!

Yes he could be part Irish. Rachel Allen is half Irish and half Icelandic.

Here she is with one of her sons and a daughter. The kids would be 1/4 Icelandic and 3/4 Irish.
