No clue. He's from Naples but his surname seems common in Sicily.

Very few Catalans settled in mainland Italy, the major community was in Alghero (Sardegna).

Surname meaning must not always be taken seriously. He might have only distant Catalan (perhaps middle ages) ancestry.
