Depends on individual.

Where I live, there is a Pole that I thought he was Spanish till tell he opened the mouth and spoke.

I couldīt determine his origine by his accent , even I thought he could be Portuguese, till he told me he was Polish.

Anyway, he could be an atypical Pole, so I agree with Est.1992. Depending on individual and depending what region.

I think Poles would have a hard time to pass in Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany or Liguria. But I guess he would fit in Trento, Trentino, Veneto, Lombardy and maybe even Piemonte (though Piemontese look more like French).

So the answer as you said : depend what region. But on average I would still give an advantage to Northern Italy because there are Slavic influenced types in North-Eastern areas.

No, I don't think because we share a religion that is Catholic. The rare ones here would be the Protestants.

Light italians hardly look polish, they would maybe pass in Poland but that's because poles aren't all uber eastern looking.

My grandmother always liked former pope Karol Wojtyla because she said he looked like my grandfather.

What do you think?

I know a Polish man who all Italians assume that he's Italian, sometimes they seem surprised when they learn he's Polish ... his wife is from Italy (Sardinian) but we're on average very different. Not all Poles have stereotypical Slavic or distinct looks to them, many of them definitely don't. I'd say both Italy and Spain are equally distant when in comes to passing etc.

Honestly i think the question of this thread would have had more sense if instead of a Pole there was a German, for example.

There are German population in some North Italian valleys in Alps, they even speak german and have german surnames. So itīs quite absurd make that question.

Italy by a far margin.

Iberian phenos are very unique except for South France and Italy, something logical because itīs an european fringe like could be Finland, Scandinavia or the Caucasus.
