But there are at least another 200-400 thousands living in Athens and southern mainland. Especially in Elia, in amaliada area 10% of surnames are from Ionian islands, and even more in patras and nafpaktos
My impression is that at least 500-700 thousands of Greeks have partially, fully or deep Ionian islander ancestry

Apparently in Ionian Islands there have been (some) Italian "influence", from Southern Italy notably but I believe maybe Veneto more back in time.

Not only Ionian islands had Italian influence. Most of Aegean islands, Crete and Peloponnese (south mainland) had some too, I would say even many parts of Central Greece as well
But certainly neither of them as much as Ionian islands

There is possibly more admixture from Italy in Cyclades (and according to a friend of me in gastouni in Peloponnese) than Ionian islands, at least if we judge by surnames

That is the best joke!!
The slavs were a land based people, they havent been recorded being naval in medieval times. No Slav ever set foot in Greece, apart from some places in Macedonia and Thrace....

So all of them are basically either blue eyed or light brown and blonde, but autosomally score as Southern as Sicilians and Jews? Interesting

they don't score as sicilians and Jews. That's common in Dodecanese Islands, plus Jews are blonde
Ionian islands results that I have seen are close to Southern mainland, which is genetically like central Italy

Then I must have mistaken them for Cretans. Do we have Ionian autosomal data?

I suspect light will be more common than mena types there. Their closest population will be Aetolia-Acarnania and Pelloponesians.....

I'd say Ashkenazi Jews on average are lighter than a lot of Southeast Europeans, despite scoring heavily in MENA admixture. That's probably because they interbred a lot within their own communities. That might be the case here too, as it's probably hard to get any outside influence on a small island.

What i mean is they are closer to Northwestern Greeks, like myself from Epirus and people from Aetolia-Acarnania, than a guy from south aegean islands, phenotypicaly. This is where it is going to get us........

Thessaloniki is a very special case and for many reasons and from many aspects, but yes in terms of pigmentation all Greeks are nearly the same

Yes but Ionian refered rather to the tribe than to Ionian Islands
The first Ionians ,Iranians came in to contact with were probably those living in Asia Minor and around the Black Sea coast(Pontus)

It's more possible that Yunan comes from Ionia (in modern western Turkey)

And Samos and Chios
Two of my professors are from Zakynthos. One is a Dinarid and the other is a light-eyed Alpine Med. Also, one neighbour of mine is from Corfu and he's dark to medium blond with brown eyes with his phenotype being Subnordid.
And my professor (the light-eyed Alpine Med) had two classmates who were from Zakynthos and were platinum blonds naturally.

So, according to you they look armenoid, anadolid and Asian alpine instead of Mediterranean and alpine that Greeks usually look
Thanks for your contribution. Where did this look come from in your opinion? Could you enlighten us with your ideas? :D

So predominantly Atlanto-Med/Pontid, Alpine and CM Greeks are the same as predominantly Armenoid/Anatolid/Turanid Turks? What is wrong with you?
