You're such a simple creature. 20% of the Australian population descend from a convict sent to Australia as punishment for a crime. If we were to follow your logic, Australia should have a high crime rate but Australia has a low crime rate.

The convicts sent to Australia were those who committed petty crimes. You could be sent to Australia just for stealing a loaf of bread. This was during the Industrial Revolution when the sudden economic shift created social problems.
