Columbian....back in 1990 I went to buy a car for cash (about $10,000, which was big money back then)...I had long hair and a cel-phone....the salesman thought I was a Columbian drug dealer. I had a hard time convincing him that I was not.

There is overlap but yes there is. Also depends on which part of the South, some places received more migrants from the North historically than others. For example, there will be much more overlap with Northerners if you are from Zhejiang, but not so much if you are from Guangxi. China is bigger than Europe, of course there is a difference.

Today at work a woman asked me "Are you sure you're from here?" and I said I was born in the town I now live in and she said "You look so much like a Turkish student I once had" and insisted I looked pure Turkish and was surprised I wasn't. I told her what I was and she said once I said it was Sicilian it all made sense -- the guy was from Izmir, and like Sicily, both were Ancient Greek areas.
