Dinaro-Pontid, possibly some Atlantid.

Interesting surname. Has the ending -aci, which is from the Cretan Greek -akis.

I correctly guessed him as being from Palermo before even looking it up.. he doesn't look typically Sicilian and whenever someone looks more northern or western than what is typical, I immediately (and usually correctly) place them in Palermo.

He'd pass in Britain just fine. He has a phenotype I would associate with the Normans... he is not even particularly light but his facial structure is quite close to a Northern European.

No, not really. He's actually mostly Atlantid.

How typical is his phenotype in Malta, btw?

All I can say is that if I didn't know him and I met him here I would talk to him in Maltese. He has very typical fisherman look .

The other thing is, I have noticed a generational gap in Palermo with the phenotypes.. the older people tend to be more swarthy than the younger people.

Immigrati llegali? Oppure solo immigrazione interna.

Younger people are (imo) more likely to have origins outside of the city of Palermo.

That doesn't make much sense.

They are darker because of tanning and the climate naturally.

He looks very Italic, nothing Norman. Many Southerners can have "northern" face structure.
I think Dinaricized Atlantid.
