Tesco - The Supermarket that's eating Britain

Tesco is Britain's favourite supermarket. With 2,000 stores and 15 million customers a week, it's almost twice as big as its nearest rival. Dispatches shows how Tesco could soon become even bigger, and asks if this retail giant is abusing its power.

1/6th of all consumer spend in the UK is at Tesco; I try to avoid the place as much as possible.

Good find. Two of their stores are located very near to me. I don't shop at either.

They're becoming (or already are) an archetypal corporate giant. Flouting local laws, offering customers small rewards in exchange for allowing them to record all their purchases, collecting detailed personal information, offering mobile and broadband contracts, dealing in life insurance etc. Avoid as much as possible indeed.

Have you noticed that if you rearrange the letters in ‘illegal immigrants’, and add just a few more letters, it spells, ‘Go home you free-loading, benefit-grabbing, resource-sucking, baby-making, non-English-speaking ********* and take those other hairy-faced, sandal-wearing, bomb-making, camel-riding, goat-f*****g raghead c***s with you.?

In australia there's a monopoly, you have two choices... Woolworths, or Coles. Both companies price fix their goods. In comparison UK is a lot better for food prices, the prices here vary by $1 or so every week.

your favorite cereals can be $4.65 one week, and $5.25 the next week for the same product.

I do most all my food shopping in Tescos now.
I used to avoid it because the quality was poor, but that's not the case anymore. Instead, Sainsbury's quality is poor, and waitrose is not as far ahead as it used to be. I can eat healthy, fresh fruit for affordable prices, thanks to tesco.
I even got the clubcard, and even my first credit card (13 mnths 0%!!! am racking up the bills already ) from them in the last few months. and all my dosh is going to a british company, and a major employer of the people. Am luvin' it! up

I live halfway between Tesco and Morrison“s . I shop at the second. Nicer products, nicer dis`play, nicer prices. I also prefer Sainsbury“s, Scotsmid or Asda b4 tesco.

Anyway, whenever I can, I shop at Lidl. Not the best place for fresh fruit or meat-fish (for that I prefer farmer“s markets ,local fishmongers and butchers etc) but for everything else , Lidl is just unbeatable
