Default Popular female names that were stolen

I notice a lot of names considered exclusively now for females were originally boy names.

Ashley, Leslie, Taylor , Madison, Sydney , Marion, Morgan, Jordan, Addison, Aubrey, even Randy ..

I can understand the appeal of Ashley for girls, but Sydney sounds straight up like a name for males, and I don't understand why any girl would be named Madison or Taylor , also very masculine sounding names. Ashley should be a boys name with the masculine sounds of Ash + Lee.

    We should reclaim these names.

Half of those are surnames that shouldn't be first names at all, and weren't until recently. Some time in the 90s/00s parents started giving their children idiotic names galore.

Just remembered that you have a surname for a first name too
    Spoiler!

I interpreted that as an US only cultural derailment. Is it in force in Australia too?

Its common in Virginia to have a surname as a first name as a way to carry on ancestral names.

I'm curious why Joe Biden named his son Hunter, what the hell is that name?
