    Default Average Canarian phenotypes

Please take a moment to watch this music video filmed in the Canary Islands that features many average Canarian phenotypes. All of the people in the video are Canarian except for the Cuban mulata in the red shirt that is singing. These are real, average everyday Canarian phenotypes.

What are some other populations that you think we resemble. You can give multiple answers if you like.

    Thanks for your comments.

With all due respect, many look more like White/off-White Cubans and Puerto Ricans than what I'd consider to be mainstream Spaniards.

I actually made a thread about Unis in the Canary Islands - they don't look as exotic as the people in the music video: http://www.theapricity.com/forum/sho...Canary-Islands

Well this makes sense since many Cubans and Puerto Ricans descend from us. There was tremendous Canarian immigration to Cuba and Puerto Rico.

But there also seems to be a strong Berberid element here that I seldom if ever see in mainland Iberians, which often gives Canarians a pseudo-Caribbean vibe anyway.

Well the Berber is higher in Canarians and more frequent than in Iberians. There is some in Iberians, but as you can see in the examples I posted from the Pino-Yanes 2011 study, it's not as frequent and as much.

If you look at the averages per island, they are

88% Euro/12% NA for Gran Canaria,

    86% Euro/14% NA for Tenerife,

    84% Euro/ 16% NA for Lanzarote,

81% Euro/19% NA for El Hierro,

    79% Euro/ 21% NA for Fuerteventura,

79% Euro/ 21% NA for La Palma and

    58% Euro/ 42% NA for La Gomera.

Iberians usually range from 98% Euro/ 2% NA to 91% Euro/ 9% NA from what I've seen in studies, but not all are like that and there are many without NA ancestry. There are even Canarians without NA ancestry, but they are much fewer in number than in Iberia.

I'm actually very European as I'm 90 European/ 10% NA. So I'm on the lower side and more like the ones in your university pictures that are more like Iberians. The gentlemen in the rural farmer video I posted are more like the La Gomera average and are very Guanche admixed. So we range in phenotype as we are an admixed population.
