Slovene music sounds same as Austrian to us though, except the language. Very alpine. What about eastern Slovene/Prekmurje music? It is completely unknown to me. Is it similar to north Croat/Međimurje music? I'm curious, because Međimurje folk music is very exotic to my ear, but beautiful and sounds nothing like Slovene/Austrian things. It is pseudo Hungarian sounding (probably due to use of violin), but I heard Slovaks and Carpathian Rusyns said it's very Slavic and reminds of their tunes.

I can immediately hear that distinctive Dalmatian sound. Is there maybe an older song that was semi-official at any point in history? The one below shows up, but it, too, isn’t an old song…

It’s, indeed, Russian; their music is something special.

I’ve heard that Orthodoxes are basically “vegans for half of the year” and I now see this confirmed. I’m attaching a (traditional!) Catholic fasting calendar for comparison.

Is there also a distinction between fasting (i.e. only one meal per day) and abstinence (i.e. not eating meat) in Orthodoxy, like it is in Catholicism?

That‘s true. I like the melancholy of their folk songs and also the national anthem very much, always enjoying it when I hear it during some sport event.
And I appreciate Prokowjew and Schostakowitsch very much.

@Rothaer, as a lawyer, what advantages and disadvantages do you see on Roman law-derived systems and those that have roots on Common Law? What about ancient Germanic law codes, e.g. Salic law, Mühlhäuser Reichsrechtsbuch, Schwabenspiegel, Sachsenspiegel etc., are you familiar with them? Which system do you think would be more appropriate for Germany?

I‘m fine with the anthem we have. This song here had its ground during the Napoleonic time of course.
I like the melody of this Arndt song, but I do not like the way it's performed in the video.
It isn't mentioned on this new extended version either.

It's prob. because Ostfalia has always been part of some larger entity, for ex. the Kingdom of Hannover and now of the federal state of Lower Saxony, founded after WW2, and there was never a noble family bearing that name, whereas there were several - low and high nobility - with Westphalen in their names.

Have you ever noticed that people in Frankfurt look extremly Keltic and almost lack Germanic types? If so do you have any explanation for that?
