I prefer the warmth and tropical flora of the Pacific Islands, despite some inconveniences.
I am able to live well temporarily in both Russia and Pacific Islands.
But depending on how self-sufficient or how isolated from the world I want to be,
life in the Pacific Islands would quickly become very primitive, or very cargo-dependent.
The ideal place for me would be a warm coastal area of a continent.

Fiji, obviously. Good quality of life on a beautiful island.
I wouldn't have to learn a new language.
Russia does have a lot of hawt chicks, though.
Sacrifices must be made: quality of life on a beautiful island > hawt Slavic chicks

French Polynesia - due to the laid back lifestyle, friendly people, scenic surroundings, and a close friend who recently relocated there.

I can't imagine life on Pacific Islands, one stronger hurricane and you are left with nothing.
People don't live that healthy considering some countries of this region have highest obesity, mostly in Oceania area(btw it was my first thought of Pacific Islands, which is quite broad term looking on span of Pacific)
High level of imports, quite low of exports at the same time means these countries are highly dependent
Therefor my choice is for Russia(even tho I would stick like a thumb in a crowd of true Aryan Russians)
