That's pretty much the stats of dating apps, 5-10% deemed attractive. So we ll probably beat those figures in the forseeable future. In a way that made us better, as men, even if a lot had to pay the price.

Women might (sometimes rightfully, sometimes not) be picky, but people weren't exactly living in modern societies with a lot of free choice back then lol.

It probably has to do with wars or geneocide,since in the rest of history in general the difference,although it existed,was minimal or was no more than 1-2 1-3
