I read that this rifle battalion of 1000 was, for some peculiar reason, quite effective. Apparently the Turks were quite impressed, to such extent, that after the war, them Turks sent military observers to Finland, with the objective to dug out information on how these poijjaat were able to mow down Turks so efficiently. One of the observers wrote a book about his experiences and suggested reorganizing the Turkish Army in the Finnish fashion. The Sultan liked the idea and thus the Turkish Army was modernized according to Finnish principles.
I picked this up on some random internet discussion, so if some Turk has better info, come here, and shatter the grand delusions of Finnish military enthusiasts
