Who are the Illuminati?

In Dr. Strange, Travelling the multiverse, I watched recently a month or two ago in cinema theatres, in the plot a group of a few called the illuminati controll a parallel universe. Could that be a hint that illuminati controll us and who are the illuminati? Sometimes movies reveal something, or give hints etc.

The Illuminati was a secret group in Bavaria (today is part of Germany). I think they were an alternative to the religions of that time (protestantism and catholicism). They were prosecuted by the king (he was catholic). AFAIK they weren't as big as the Free Masons.

What would be the difference if they didn't "control" you?

It was originally names after that Bavarian group.
But theses days feel its kind of umbrella term that may describe powerful groups in the background that through their connections etc have lot of influence over things.

I heard people talk about Bilderburg group and Rothschilds etc, but like most of us Im just a mushroom I dont pretend to really know exactly whats going on.
But there is a saying "if your not paranoid, your just not paying attention".
Or as my Hungarian Uncles says in his thick Hungarian accent ...
