In the Czech Republic, populations that are more rural and/or eastern (Moravian) typically identify with their Slavic heritage, and they will be more conservative and patriotic on average.
Populations that are more urban and/or western (Bohemian) have this really bizarre obsession with being secretly German. Many of them will tell you they have a German grandpa, that their family used to speak German, etc. and honestly it's about as realistic as the Americans with their Cherokee princess grandmas. They will really stress the few things we have in common with Germans, like cookie recipes and some slang we have from their language, as some sort of proof of a kinship that quite frankly doesn't really exist.
Online, you're more likely to encounter the second type of person. They really look up to anything Western, but especially German, and desperately want to prove that they are similar to German, British, French, etc. people.
Although worldwide, it's not exactly uncommon for everyone to look up to Western Europeans and Americans and to wish to be like them, even sacrificing their actual cultural heritage to accomplish this. It's just more frustrating when it's your own people doing it. Lol
