Tajani condemns 'violence and treatment applied' to Falcinelli

(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 6 - Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has condemned the violence a young Italian man, Matteo Falcinelli, was subjected to when he was arrested in Miami in February.

Police Bodycam videos show the 25-year-old being slammed to the ground outside a night club and then tied up, with his ankles bound and his hands behind his back, at a police station. During the videos Falcinelli can be heard to say "I'm not resisting", "please", "I'm not doing anything" and, at one point, screaming in pain. The arrest dates back to late February but the family have only just gone public with what happened after an agreement in which Falcinelli agreed to go on a re-educational program in order to avoid jail time. "I won the most important match by surviving the torture I suffered," Falcinelli told his mother, Vlasta Studenicova. Tajani had a telephone conversation with Studenicova about the case on Sunday. "I offered the lady and Falcinelli's family my warmest solidarity," Tajani said. "I was deeply shocked by the violence and the kind of treatment that was applied to our young compatriot. "The foreign ministry will follow Mr. Falcinelli's case with balance and respect for the US institutions, but also with all the necessary strength". Miami police have opened an internal inquiry into the case.

What stuck out to me is the article doesn't state why he was arrested. Can you tell us why he was arrested?

Hard to say why was arrested, he definitely wasnt a criminal, according to current info. That being said this is not an uncommon behaviour from American police. The point isnt why he was arrested but the torture he suffered in a "democratic" country. I would understand if was in Russia...

This is the reality of Usa. Your life can be taken basically anytime. Police can storm your home with wrong adress and you can get 100+ bullets for just checking whats happening because you have a gun at your hand when youre investigating intruders.

He wasn't tortured. I'm critical of police but if he was putting up a struggle they'll take him down.

I would like to see the full video. I want to know why he was asked to leave the strip club and why the police had to be called. I want to know why he put his hands on the two officers (there would be body cam footage).

If the strip club felt the need to call the cops after being told to leave the property, then he obviously was being a problem.

Right once I got kicked out from a club, I was being drunk and loud, so they called the police on me, I was not resisting at all but was being cocky with the policeman, he kicked my leg and threw me to the ground,throwing a handcuff on me immediately without asking anything. obviously there were like 3-4 of them beside this one. I was being loud again so later they hold me on the ground for like five minutes until I realised that I should shut my mouth finally... The treatment was questionable since I didn't commit anything beside being drunk and disorderly (Don't know what the offence is called in the US), but It was called for so to say. The guy was probably acting like a drunk asshole then cried to his momma when came home, be stupid win stupid prizes.. If u gonna be dumb you gotta be tough . lol
