Maybe stop hanging out with them
They're fun but not good for mental health
I have a few hobbies all centered around one main interest and I'd say I'm pretty adept at them, I'm going to be hosting a class/workshop event next month actually. My friends are not incels.

EASE would probably be better if you're worried about parallel expansion. I've talked to several practitioners and they don't really think highly of FME and won't end up choosing it over a custom MARPE. Parallel expansion is possible with a MARPE, even in men, but EASE may be your better bet

I collect from what you say ("Can unrealistic standards truly be unlearned?") that this is what you are dealing with now. First of all this labelling, standards or high aestetic standards, must be corrected. This formulation is nothing but a masking of another wrong.

It's not about standards but about you not meaningfully prioritising. There is an OCD behind, sure, but that knowledge does not yet give an orientation what is a disorder and what not. Only the functionality does and what exactly is wrong can be rationally elaborated and by that - hopefully - made graspable for you.

So again, this is all not about having any particular "standards". It's fine to maintain whatever high ideals, only liking art works of Michelangelo, but at the end of the day there are more tasks in life to deal with and to manage. I think this should be your approach. Keep your alleged standards, it doesn't matter. But put all things in a meaningful ranking order and don't spend your time on functionally unimportant things as long as functionally important things are not fixed. They simply have priority. When that tasks are done you can anticipate to return to your beloved topics of lesser importance.

I genuinely have no idea what any of this means so it's probably a dumb thing to be insecure about

I have no idea what a MARPE is so I googled it.

    answer:
What is MARPE? Miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) is an effective non-surgical and non-extraction treatment approach for expanding the upper jaw, known as the maxilla. A narrow maxilla is associated with nasal obstruction, crowded teeth, and hindered facial development.

I'm referring to the fact that most maxillary expansion devices are placed anteriorly rather than posteriorly on the hard palate, due to the fact it requires greater force to split the mid-palatal suture at the posterior. What does this mean? If you are only expanding the anterior, it opens up your maxilla, like a book, resulting in unnatural expansion, which has less functional yield in comparison to parallel expansion, in addition to aesthetically odd-looking cheekbones and smile.

That didn't make it any clearer.

I remember you from your classification thread. You look fine.

There comes a sentence of a renowned psychologist into my mind - very pointed of course - saying many/most true lunatics are running around outside, functioning superb.
