    and besides catalan and castillian are quite similar. That helps a lot.
    Now that is probably the main factor. Welsh is rather different from English and Basque isn't even Indo-European.

    P.S. Welsh has some words from Latin and French less present in English that speakers of Romance languages should recognise: werdd, eglwys, dillun, dimawrdd, dimerched.

    One particularly odd link between Welsh and Catalan is that both are full of ll's.
