Does that mean he's the paternal ancestor of every single R1a living today?

How is that? Many EHG carried this haplogroup, so in fact early europeans like scandinavian hunter gatherers might had this. Of course earliest are WHG, but short after comes the R1.

    How short after?
The oldest European cultures has nothing to do with R1a and R1b, which are closely related to Q.
We can observe Asian futures in North Europeans and today. Why do you think is that?

Not the oldest, they were haplogroup C and short after, I. R1b has more than 13000 years in Europe with Villabruna 1, not the oldest, but old, same with R1a. I is supossed to be closely related to J, and they have nothing in common, were not even remotely close physically.

Also, asian features in north europeans are not because of R1's what makes you think that? have you seen a reconstruction of EHG or WSH? They had 0 mongoloid.
