Does it even matter? I am more interested in Bulgarian genetics than you are, and I try not to have prejudice like most of the people here. I am fine even if they were Mongolic or SSA as long as there is concrete evidence. For now, Turko-Mongolo-Turanists are wrong.

Without going into history, my general interest is whether they were some proto-Slavs (or population similar to Slavs), or population similar to Turkic tribes, and the answer is they were almost identical to the former.

Off topic, but are Uralic speakers in large part linguistically Uralicized Indo-Europeans? I mean just their Caucasian genes, are those of IE origin?

In my opinion, it depends
Hungarians and Finns are Turkics mixed with Germanics and Slavs, while Udmurts, Samis, Mordvins or Samoyedic (not dogs, but people) are pure Turkics (from Ugro-Finnic tribe group)

They are not the head of the Slavic world. No other Slavs see Bulgarians in that way.

Just because they were geographically closest to Greeks and first got Cyrillic script (developed from Greek script) doesnt mean they are more civilized than Serbs, Russians, Ukrainians etc.

It's true that all that was just caused by their geographic position. I maybe expressed my self badly. I do not consider the Bulgarians the current head of the Slavic world, but in the historic-cultural development. This past - not current - position of the Bulgarians does connect them so much with the Slavic world that they must remain Slavic, no matter what.
